Prelude to Gatticus: Introduction and Setting

The first post of a blog sets the tone for the reader, the writer, and the blog itself. I say this because this if the first blog post I've posted on a blog in quite some time. I want to keep this personal, yet say what I can about what I want. So, bear with me as I try to sum up my thoughts on what I want this blog to be about.

  • I want to write about what I experience and what I have experienced with tabletop and video-gaming. I want to share experiences that I have had as a Dungeon Master as well as talk about what other games I have played and what I thought of them as well as what happened while I played them.
  • I want to write about my thoughts on game design. I want to get my ideas out, and should I start developing a game write about the process I'll go through to actually make a dream a reality.
  • I want to write to a community of readers who aren't afraid to for discussions and forums about what subjects I talk about. I want to bring forth debate and dialogue peacefully and intelligibly.
So, without further ado, I will start by talking about the current setting of my D&D campaign: Gatticus, World Without Gods.

Gatticus is a plane of existence I have home-brewed for D&D. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting where the Gods have died and the world itself barely functions due to their absence. Here my players have discovered that law, honor, and even family have(had) been shoved aside for something more simple: survival.

The players' starting location was a relatively unharmed vault safe located inside a mountain. There the vault overseer Chief told them about their mission: the safe had recently lost a good portion of their water chips air-elemental talismans, and without a new batch to replace them the safe would run out of clean air. The Player Characters' first mission is to find a new supply, or find a way to fix/fabricate new air-elemental talismans for the safe to utilize before the safe runs out of clean air, which the Chief estimates will be two months from now.

My next post will log another chapter into this tale, and also give character descriptions!
